Chicago’s #1 SPORTS Talk Radio!!!!  AM1240 and AM1470

Bigg Jon...get ready...this could be a long one.

As we enter a new year...that means conference play in college basketball. No more match-ups like N.J.I.T at Kansas...Southern at North Carolina...or the game I am going to see today( Sunday). Alcorn State at DePaul. I must say I am burned out by these match-ups. I remember some time ago. My boss, the “czar” Mark Pinski told me of an idea which, I feel , is a great idea. The top 50 teams from the previous year only have those teams to pick from when putting together a non-conference schedule. I am really tired of seeing Cornell at Syracuse every year. My personal favorite is when a "mid major" like Valpo signs to play a North Carolina...and a Duke for a home and home. Valpo goes to the Dean Dome and Cameron. The actual arenas where North Carolina and Duke play. However, when those 2 teams play Valpo in what is suppose to be a home game for Valpo. North Carolina and Duke demand that those games be played at the United Center. By playing those at the UC...it is a home game for the Tar Heels and Blue Devils. I know money has a lot to do with it. However, if I am the A.D. at Valparaiso. I tell them to play the game in our home gym which seats 6,000. If the answer is no. Then I do not play. Plain and simple. Next sentence.

To prove my point. There are some really good match-ups this week. On Tuesday...Illinois is at Purdue...Thursday, Villanova at Marquette...and Saturday...Creighton at Illinois State. My pick of the week is Saturday...Pittsburgh at Georgetown.

FINALLY! CONFERENCE PLAY…...

Locally, a lot of games in Chicago this week. UIC (8-3) resumes with Horizon league conference play vs. Wisconsin- Milwaukee on Tuesday...and Wisconsin- Green Bay on Saturday. Both games at the Pavilion. DePaul (7-5) plays it's final non conference game today ( Sunday) vs. Alcorn State at Allstate Arena. Big East conference play starts for the Blue Demons on Wednesday vs. Notre Dame. This game also at the Allstate Arena. Let's get more DePaul fans than Notre Dame fans. Finally this week. DePaul plays at Providence on Saturday. Loyola (7-5) continues it's home stand with Alcorn State on Tuesday...Then the Ramplers pick up Horizon League play Saturday vs. Wisconsin- Milwaukee...Both games at the Gentile Center...Finally, Chicago State(6-6) plays in Orlando Monday vs. Campbell...then back at the Jones Center Saturday vs. Eastern Michigan.

I do not want to forget football. Northern Illinois plays Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl tonight (Sunday). The Huskies are actually a 3 point favorite. Monday night...it's the Alamo Bowl and Northwestern plays Missouri. 2 wins would be very nice for the spirits. Good luck to the Huskies and Wildcats. A lot of Bowl games this week. Some of the good ones...Tuesday night...Holiday Bowl...Oklahoma State vs. Oregon...Thursday...Capital one Bowl...Michigan State vs. Georgia...Rose Bowl...Penn State vs. USC...Orange Bowl...Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati. The best of the bunch this week...I feel is the Sugar Bowl on Friday...Utah vs. Alabama...This should be a fantastic game.

Well...I certainly hope all of you have a very happy and more importantly HEALTHY New Year. See you next and, as always,

ENJOY THE GAMES!!!
